What are the different types of window restrictor?
Safety and security are two of the biggest concerns for
homeowners.
Window restrictors are a great way to optimise safety in any property. Acting in the same way as a chain on a door, they allow you to leave the window ajar, without it being fully open.
This means that you can childproof your property, while benefiting from a constant flow of fresh air, without having to leave your window open.
What is a window restrictor?
A window restrictor lets you restrict how far a window can be opened. They allow the window to be opened enough to ventilate the room, but not wide enough to allow a person to climb or fall through.
This is beneficial for both security and safety, preventing people from accessing the property through a window and ensuring children canāt fall out of open windows.
What are the benefits of window restrictors?
Window restrictors offer a number of benefits, including:
Preventing falls
One of the biggest worries for families is keeping their little ones safe at home. After all, children are into, and onto, everything, and it can be difficult to keep them safe in the home.
Window restrictors ensure that your children canāt open the window wide enough to fall or jump out of.
Security
As well as keeping everyone safe inside the building, window restrictors also help keep the property secure by preventing intruders from gaining access through the window.
Built to last
Window restrictors are manufactured to the highest safety and quality standards, so you wonāt have to worry about constantly replacing them.
Let air into your home
Leaving your windows open allows the flow of fresh air into your home. However, many homeowners are incredibly reluctant to leave their windows open due to safety concerns. With a window restrictor, you will be able to create a space for fresh air to flow into your home, without providing access for intruders.
Easy to use
Window restrictors are incredible easy to use. They come with a cable lock and cut key locking for optimum security purposes. The vast majority of window restrictors are used in exactly the same way ā youāll simply you need to insert the key and twist or press a button to lock. Window restrictors also come complete with fitting instructions that are easy to follow.
Window restrictor types
There are two main types of window restrictors available - concealed restrictors and retrofitted window restrictors. Both of these window restrictors work in different ways.
A concealed window restrictor is a robust and durable metal unit that is fitted to the inside of the window frame, restricting the window opening to approximately 100mm. This type of window restrictor can be easily released by pressing a button, allowing you to open the window further with ease. Many people prefer this type of restrictor as it doesnāt require a key. However, this does mean that the window could be pushed open further if someone accidently presses the button.
On the other hand, retrofitted window restrictors feature a cable or steel folding body. Opening to approximately 100mm, this type of window restrictor is different to a concealed restrictor as it can be used with a window lock with a key. However, itās important to ensure that the keys are not misplaced
