How To Change 5 Lever Mortice Lock ?

Changing a 5 lever mortice lock may seem intimidating, but with a bit of patience and the proper tools, it is a task that can be easily accomplished. Follow these steps to successfully change a 5 lever mortice lock:

  • Gather the necessary tools. You will need a screwdriver, preferably one with a Philips head, a drill fitted with an 8mm drill bit, and the replacement lock.
  • Remove the existing lock. Start by unfastening the screws that hold the lock in place, both on the exterior and interior of the door.
  • Extract the lock from the door. Once all of the screws have been removed, gently pull the lock out of the door.
  • Install the new lock. Align the replacement lock with the aperture in the door where the old lock was situated. Insert the screws and tighten them to secure the lock firmly in place.
  • Test the lock. Before replacing the screws on the inside of the door, ensure that the lock functions properly. Once you are satisfied that the lock is operating effectively, replace the screws on the inside of the door.
  • Repeat the process on the other side of the door. If your door has locks on both the interior and exterior, repeat the process on the opposite side of the door to replace the lock there as well.
  1. Test the lock again. After both locks have been replaced, test them once more to confirm that they are functioning properly.

There are several reasons why you may want to change a 5 lever mortice lock. Perhaps you have lost the key and do not want to pay for a locksmith to pick the lock. Alternatively, you may simply want to upgrade to a newer, more secure lock. Regardless of the motivation, changing a 5 lever mortice lock is a task that can be easily completed with a bit of effort and the appropriate tools. Do not hesitate to enhance the security of your home by replacing the lock on your door with a 5 lever mortice lock.
